Policy arrangements
Q - What happens when my annual multi-trip policy expires?
A - EBS Travel Insurance will remind you 3 weeks before your policy expires, and
offer you the opportunity to buy another policy.
Q - Can I change my policy?
A - You cannot change the level of benefits. But if you move home, EBS Travel Insurance will
reissue your policy for your new address. If you need to add winter sports
cover or want to increase the number of people insured, you can call us on
1890 940 120. As long as you are not on holiday at the time, EBS Travel Insurance can cancel
your policy, give you an appropriate return of premium and arrange a new
policy for you.
Q - How can I pay for my policy?
A - You can pay on-line with an Irish credit card.
Q - Do I have to pay medical expenses and claim them back or
will you pay them directly?
A - If it’s a medical emergency and you are admitted to hospital,
our emergency assistance service will guarantee the fees of the
hospital and attending doctor(s) – so you don’t have to pay. In
cases where the expenses are small, you may opt to pay, or be asked
to pay, and claim the money back. Please talk to our emergency
assistance service, unless the case is very minor, and they will
decide what to do.

Business trips
Q - Can you provide cover for a business trip?
A - Yes, if you are going away on business, you can buy
our dedicated Business Travel policy. This includes many business related
benefits and also covers you for a few days holiday during taken during
that busy trip. To find out more click

Cover questions
Q - How many days am I actually covered per year under your annual policy?
A - Our annual policy covers you for individual trips of up to 30
consecutive days. You can take as many individual trips as you like
providing you don't spend more than 90 days abroad in any insurance
period. If you select our winter sports option, you will be covered
for up to 21 days in any insurance period whilst you participate in
winter sports either abroad or in Ireland.
Q - My home contents policy covers personal effects and valuables
outside my home. Can I cancel the baggage section of your policy
and pay a lower premium?
A - There may be cover under some household contents insurance policies,
but the limits may be lower than those under our policy and claiming
may affect your premium. Our policy does not have an option to de-select
personal effects cover. But EBS Travel Insurance guarantees not to ask your home contents insurer
to reimburse us if EBS Travel Insurance pays a claim, so your home contents premium
won’t be affected by a holiday loss.
Q - We are insured as a couple, do we each have the amount of
cover described in the policy or do we share it?
A - Each of you is covered separately up to the limits shown in
the policy. The policy limits apply in the same way as they would
if you had taken two separate policies. (Note: It’s the same for
‘family’ and ‘parent plus children’ policies – although there are
limitations on the situations in which children can travel separately.)
Q - Am I covered for holidays in Ireland?
A - Yes, provided you have bought an annual policy. You must spend
at least two nights in accommodation you booked before your departure.
So a weekend break involving two nights in a hotel would be covered,
but a day out and overnight stop wouldn't. If you have bought
a trip policy you will not be covered for holidays in Ireland.
Q - What am I not covered for?
A - EBS Travel Insurance has highlighted what we believe are the most important exclusions in the FAQ’s, Summary of Benefits, and on the statements EBS Travel Insurance asks you to confirm before you buy our cover. It is not possible for us to list everything you will not be covered for, and EBS Travel Insurance strongly advise you to read the full policy wording. Under each section of cover you will find a list of exclusions on the right hand side of the page, and a further list of General Exclusions in Part IV towards the end of the policy wording. These sections must not be read in isolation, but within the context of the full policy wording. If you have any doubts about what is not covered, please contact us.

Winter sports
Q - Do you cover off-piste skiing?
A - Yes, if you have taken our winter sports option. EBS Travel Insurance recognises that people may go off-piste although EBS Travel Insurance recommends that they only do so if they have the appropriate skills and equipment and are accompanied by someone who knows the area well. Our winter sports cover includes skiing, tobogganing, snow boarding and outdoor ice-skating. Competitive winter sports are excluded including ski or ski bob racing, mono skiing, ski jumping, ski boarding, ice hockey and the use of bobsleighs and skeletons.
Q - What happens if I can’t ski for some reason?
A - If you’re ill or have an accident or you lose your ski pass or have it stolen EBS Travel Insurance will pay for the unused portion up to
€75.00 per week, with a maximum of €300.00 per holiday. Or, if you are unable to ski for over 12 consecutive hours because of a lack of snow in your resort and there’s no alternative skiing available, EBS Travel Insurance will pay
€20.00 for each full 24 hour period, with a maximum of €200.00 per holiday.
Q - If I have an accident whilst skiing, will my policy pay to get me off the slopes and into hospital?
A - Yes, if what you were doing falls within our permitted winter sports activities and is not excluded by the policy, you are insured under our medical and additional expenses cover. And there is also cover for the unexpired part of your ski pass.
Q - How many days cover do I get for winter sports with your
annual policy?
A - Our annual policy gives you up to 21 days winter sports in any
policy period. If you buy our trip policy and select our winter sports
option, you will be covered for winter sports for the trip duration
you choose.

Residency
Q - What do you mean by the term Irish resident?
A - Someone who has been living in Ireland for at least 3 months prior to the date cover is applied for. If you are not returning to
Ireland, please
Q - I am Irish but my partner does not have Irish citizenship, can we purchase a policy to cover us as a couple?
A - Yes, provided you are both resident in Ireland (excluding Northern Ireland) and your partner is your spouse or a person of either sex with whom you have been living for at least three months as though they were your spouse.
Q - I live overseas. Can I buy your insurance?
A - Sorry, only residents in Ireland can buy our insurance.

Children
Q - I have 4 children, can I still be covered under the family policy?
A - Yes. EBS Travel Insurance don’t place a limit on the number of children in your family. The only limitations are they must be:
- the children of you and/or your partner, and
- under 18 (or under 23 if still in full-time education) on the
day you buy your policy, and
- dependent on you or your partner even if they don’t live with you.
Q - I have a child over 18 who still lives at home and is in
full time education, can we cover him/her under our family policy?
A - Yes, provided he or she is under 23 years of age.
Q - We have a ‘family’ policy, but our children live away from home
during term time at college. Are they covered?
A - As long as your children or your partner’s children are not older
than 18 years on the day you buy your policy (or under 23 years if
still in full-time education) and dependent on you, they are covered
whether they live with you or not. But there are restrictions on their
ability to travel without you or your partner. (The same restrictions
apply on our ‘parent and children’ policy.)
Q - Can children insured under an ‘individual and children’ or ‘family’
policy travel on their own?
A - Yes, but only if you have bought our annual policy. If the child is named
on your annual policy they are covered whilst they are travelling on their own,
but ONLY in the following circumstances:
- in the company of an adult (i.e someone not defined as a child
under this insurance) you or your partner know other than on an
organised school, college or university trip
- travelling on a scheduled air service as an unaccompanied minor,
but only if that air service operates an unaccompanied minor scheme,
and only if they are travelling with the intention of joining,
or being subsequently joined by, another adult insured under the
policy.
They are not covered whilst travelling on their own in any other
circumstances.
Q - I am 64 but I will be 65 within the next 12 months, can I still take out an annual multi-trip policy?
A - Yes, but cover will automatically end when the policy finishes - you won’t be able to renew it.

Single direction journeys
Q - I am going to live abroad and am not returning to Ireland. Can I buy your annual travel insurance?
A - Sorry, our policy does not cover single direction trips or non-Irish. Trips must begin and end in
Ireland and you must be resident here.
Q - I am starting my journey from another country, but returning to
Ireland after 28 days. Will your policy cover me?
A - Sorry, trips must begin and end in Ireland.

Pregnancy
Q - I am pregnant will I be covered?
A - Yes, provided you are not due to give birth less than 14 weeks
after the end of your trip. If your due date is at least 14 weeks
after the end of your trip, and you give birth during your trip, your
baby will automatically be covered by our policy. If you are due to
give birth within 14 weeks of the date your trip ends you cannot be
covered by our policy.

Medical Conditions
Q - I have a medical condition, can I be covered?
A - Before you buy a policy, EBS Travel Insurance asks you to confirm that you are NOT
- receiving or on a waiting list for treatment in a hospital or
nursing home
- travelling against the advice of a medically qualified doctor
- travelling for the purpose of obtaining medical treatment
- travelling after being given a terminal prognosis
If you cannot confirm all these points you cannot be covered.

Complaints
Q - How can I make a complaint?
A - EBS Travel Insurance operates a comprehensive Complaints Procedure.

Payments
Q - How can I pay?
A - You may pay online by credit or Laser card. Alternatively you can contact us to purchase by telephone.
